OLD Mac DONALD'S FARM (La granja del viejito MacDonald)
a bilingual show where kids learn some spanish

Sept. 6 – Sept. 27, 2008

Written by Michele Moad-Hageman and Directed by Paula Jo Peterson    Bilingual version by Larissa Reynosa

The Mac Donald farm is busy with plans for the fall.  Silas and Mary Mac Donald sing songs and talk about all of their barnyard animals as they teach the children how to say animal names in Spanish.  The simple Spanish word are mixed in this classic story as  the children even learn how the animal serves a purpose on the farm.  Highly recommended for pre-kinder and kindergarten aged children.  Children in the audience are challenged to remember the exact order of all 9 animals as they sing along and enjoy the fun.  Steven Stoli plays Silas Mc Donald, his daughter Larissa Reynosa plays Mary Mac Donald and Jordan Hogan plays all the animals.  The original play was written by Paula Jo Peterson who also directs this show.

LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD AND THE COOKIE WOLF
Oct. 4 – nov. 1, 2008

Adapted by Michele Moad-Hageman and Directed by Paula Jo Peterson

This kid-friendly version of the classic children’s story of a little girl, who strays away from the path in the woods and meets a Big Bad Wolf, doesn’t even have a Big Bad Wolf! He is the Silly Cookie Wolf and the smell of the cookies in Little Red’s basket is almost too much for him to bear! The children learn the "going off in the woods by yourself" instructions from Little Red’s mother, Mrs. Red. She patiently packs Little Red’s basket with the help of the children in the audience and then doubles as Little Red’s Grandmother, Granny Red, at the end of the story. Along the journey in the woods, Little Red is reminded by big signs that say things like, "Don’t Play," "Stay on the Path," and " Don’t talk to strangers." And the children shout out the warnings when they appear from behind the trees in the woods. But does Little Red listen. No. She plays, she strays off the path and she talks to strangers! Everything ends on a good note, with both the wolf and Little Red learning their lessons. These important life messages about how to stay safe are repeated several times during the show in a fun, musical way designed to help the children to always remember never to talk to strangers!

A little pilgrim’s Thanksgiving
Nov. 4 – Nov. 22, 2008

Written by Rebecca Zuniga and Directed by Paula Jo Peterson

While his mother is preparing their first-ever Thanksgiving dinner, little Bobby Hollingsbrook goes on a fall adventure in the woods of the first American Colony. Along the way, Bobby and the children in the audience encounter four charming animals; Blossom the Opossum, Blousie the Mousie, Murtle the Birdle, and Honey the Bunnie, who each have a story to tell about what it means to be thankful. With plenty of audience participation and lots of singing and dancing, Bobby learns that the real reason for being thankful lies in his home, where his journey began.

SANTA'S HOLIDAY SURPRISE  - DECEMBER 6 -22, 2008

written and directed by paula jo peterson

This original Holiday treat will enchant and delight as the children in the audience help Dolly and Santa save Christmas when the elves get stranded in Hawaii on vacation and can’t get back to the North Pole.  Bosko the Backyard pup keeps us in stitches as he repeatedly appears in parts of Santa’s prized Red suit.  Santa warns him not to take any more things that do not belong to him, and when Bosko appears with yet another part of Santa’s missing Red Suit, Santa has no choice but to keep Bosko off the sleigh this year.  Everyone is so sad for Bosko until we discover that Bosko hasn’t been taking these missing things, Bosko has been finding them!  Bosko saves the day and helps guide the sleigh for Santa!  Santa will sit on his throne for pictures and after spending an hour getting to know Santa during the show, the children are both happy and unafraid to sit upon his knee and tell him their Holiday wishes in exchange for a free candy cane and a picture to save.  And it sure beats the long lines at the Mall.

CINDERELLA
January 16 – feb.  21, 2009

Directed by Paula Jo Peterson

Living back in the days when people actually did become Kings, Queens and Princesses, Cinderella can only dream of having the same kind of privileged life that her stepsisters enjoy. However, these nasty stepsisters, along with her horrible stepmother, don’t share at all and can be quite mean when they put their minds to it. In this kid-friendly version of the classic fairy tale of good triumphing over evil, Cinderella not only gets her wish to dance at the Royal Ball and she manages to get the Royal Prince along in the bargain! The Fairy God Mother is a hoot and the ugly stepsisters are hilarious in their attempts to ruin poor Cinderella’s happiness. This show is full of life-lessons that can help children see that they are wonderful just the way they are and that that things turn out much better for you if you are nice to the people you either live with or will eventually meet on your way through life.

PETER RABBIT - March  5 - April 18, 2009

adapted and directed by paula jo peterson
Celebrating Peter’s 105th birthday, this Classic Children’s tale is performed by both actors and little audience members alike.  The actors play the roles of Peter Rabbit and Beatrix Potter, the author of the series of tiny books of which Peter Rabbit is 1 of 23.   Unsuspecting adults play Farmer McGregor and the berry bush and the anxious-to-volunteer children in the audience not only play Mrs. Rabbit and Peter’s good little brothers and sister, Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail, but they will also grace the stage as cabbage heads, french beans, radishes, wheel barrows, mice, cats, goldfish, colorful sparrows and garden gates!  Although the central story is the same as the one we grew up with, this tale gleefully changes with every performance as new cast members join in the fun and excitement of telling Beatrix Potter’s enduring tale of being good and “minding your mother.”

THE THREE BEARS GO TO THE BEACH
MAY 6 – JUNE 13, 2009

Written and Directed by Steven Stoli

Papa, Mama, and Baby Bear head for the white sand and sunny shores of Port Aransas in this rousing story of safety at the beach. Papa does his best to show his family how to survive a family outing to sunny Port Aransas…only to find that he often needs the rescuing! There is surfing, fishing, dancing and swimming fun in this cute and cuddly show about the Bear Family’s trip to the beach. Jack Riccardi lends his famous radio voice as the announcer of all the fun festivities that both the bears and the children on the audience take part in. By the end of this exciting show, even the toddlers have learned the basic rules for summer safety at the beach!

Snow WHITE and the Seven Dwarfs
JUNE 20 – AUGUST 1, 2008

adapted and directed by paula jo peterson

A classic children’s tale about a poor girl’s journey from rags to riches, Snow White takes the audience on a fun and frolicking adventure that includes a handsome Prince, a mean, but misunderstood Stepmother, a Mirror
with a big mouth and seven cute dwarfs played by local child actors who are selected from our Kreative Teens and Kreative Kids classes.  This annual production encourages the children in the audience to take acting classes to learn how to perform in front of an audience.  Who knows?  This year’s tiny audience member could be next year’s dwarf with a paycheck!  A wonderful opportunity and great fun for the whole family!
