STEVEN STOLI
- Executive Producer/CEO - He wrote, produced, directed, and starred in his very first play in 1960 at the age of 7. It was performed in his backyard here in San Antonio. A native San Antonian, he graduated from Winston Churchill
High School and The University of Texas-Austin. The first nine years of his career was as the Bank Marketing Director of a Houston Bank Holding Company. However, while attending a retreat conducted by his Uncle, Joseph R. Caldwell, S.J., in California, Steven read the book,
The Road Less Traveled. He then realized it was time to follow the path he started on when he was seven. He resigned from the bank to entertain the audiences. Steven has been in the entertainment field for 24 years. In 1990, he formed The Steven Stoli Entertainment Group,
Inc. and produced touring stage plays, videos and promotional events. Steven performed as the national characters of
Capt. Henry Morgan, Jack Daniels, Dr. Rupert Rumplemintz, and Dr. Comfort
Chemistry. In 1995, the Entertainment Group moved into the current location and opened The Steven Stoli Playhouse and BackYard Theatre for Kids. In Sept., 2007, he reached a milestone when Steven produced the
256th show at The Playhouse. He has over 650 credits as an actor, writer, director, and producer in TV, theatre, videos, print, radio and movies.
The western comedy he wrote in 1993, “Hang ‘em High in the Selma Sky!” had a 63-week run, with 50 of those being consecutive sell-outs.
It is still today the longest running comedy murder mystery in
San Antonio history.
Steven also wrote “1943-The Homefront” and “It Happened One Night on the S.S. Applewhite!” both nominated for Best Original Script by the
GLOBE Awards. Steven received six GLOBE Awards for Best Drama and Comedy for his productions of Trip to Bountiful, Driving Miss Daisy, Steel Magnolias,
Waiting for MacArthur and just recently Shirley Valentine. He also
has four Globe Awards for Best Director plus three Best Lighting
award. He produced the Live Radio Theatre broadcast of War of the Worlds on October 31, 1998 on KTSA radio. In December, 1999, Steven was named one of the top
20 most influential people in the entertainment field here in San Antonio, by the Express-News. The Friends of the San Antonio Public Library honored him with the
2000-2001 Arts & Letters Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Arts and
Today’s Catholic Newspaper named him a St. Vincent de Paul Guardian
Angel.
Steven has dedicated The Playhouse to his father Bob, who was his business partner and mentor until his passing in August of 1994. He would like to thank Wanda for her coffee and peanut butter toast and Phyllis for her coupons! To his daughters, Larissa and Elise for their love and understanding and to his mother, Mary Kay, for her continuing support and love. And to
Caitlyn, River, Cheyann ,Mighty Joe Louis and Cadyn for keeping him young! And to the staff of The Playhouse, Paula Jo who from the beginning, has always been there for me, Sandy who keeps me on the straight and narrow, Jessie and MaryClaire for their youth and passion for the craft, Laurie K. for her friendship and Rice Kripies bars and
Monique, Kristen, Cody, Nicole and all the other Kreative Teens and Kids who make it all worth while and also make this “house” a real home.
