Paula
Jo sends a warm welcome to all who visit this great website or
our wonderful theatre. We all tend to look back and say,
“Where did the years go?” The interesting thing with the Steven Stoli Playhouse family
is that we know exactly where the years went and we happily
remember every step along the way.
Paula Jo says, “Touching lives on a daily basis, will
do that to you. It’s
not the plays you remember.
It’s the audience’s reaction to your performance
that stays with you.”
Paula Jo has been working with Steven Stoli since Aug. 23,
1992 and she should have known that she would have a long and
fruitful career as an attention-seeking actress when her folks
gave her twin brothers when she was a mere 11 months old.
At that very moment, she lost the limelight and she has
spent the past 48 years trying to get it back.
Paula Jo is best known for her work as the resident
Children’s Playwright with our prestigious Back Yard
Theatre. She is
currently writing her 20th children’s play and is
busy directing her 100th children’s production.
Paula Jo won an ATAC Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy for
her portrayal of “Doris” in the 1995 Playhouse Production
of Same Time Next Year, and she is hopeful for a Globe
in 2007 for the Playhouse’s great production of the
one-woman comedy, Shirley Valentine.
Paula Jo is currently preparing for another
one-woman comedy, The Lady with all the Answers, set
for January 2008, in which she will take on the role of
Ann Landers.
Paula Jo is a people person; although, all caged birds love
her too. Her favorite color is “frozen peas green,” and
her blood type is A positive but she can’t give blood
because she spent more than 6 months in the UK between ’81-
’99. They say she may have Mad Cow Disease, but we all know it is
just “PMS.”
Her family hails from Litchfield, Minnesota.
She has three children.
Ben, 28 is a waiter at Piatti in the Quarry and works
with the union loading in shows like The Lion King and The
Rat Pack down at the Majestic Theatre. Tim, 26, is the happily married father of three daughters
under 5 and has served 2 tours in Iraq as a Navy Corpsman with
the United States Marines.
And Lizzie, 24, is between jobs, and firmly nestled in
her mother’s heart. Paula Jo is thankful to everyone in her extended Playhouse
family and she hopes you will join us sometime for a couple of
hours of happy merry-making.
One day, she hopes people will come to San Antonio for
4 things; The Spurs, The Alamo, The Riverwalk and The Steven
Stoli Playhouse and The BackYard Theatre for Kids.
